Six years ago I was asked by a kit-designer pal of mine to take part in a Skillshare set of sessions he was running on kit design. The brief was to design your team a new kit and present the entire process online as part of the class.
Given that Southend United have just launched their 2019-20 kit, again in the rather dull navy blue templated shirt alongside the ‘Saveourshirt’ campaign (which incidentally, I don’t buy into at all), I thought I’d share my work I did on their kit for that 2013 Skillshare project.
I wanted to return Southend to their lighter blue, more reminiscent of sunny days at the seaside and focused on the Bukta kit they wore in a memorable draw with Liverpool in 1979 that brings back fond memories for any Blues fan.
